How we price the gold we buy
Precious metals quote two numbers. The bid is what buyers in the wholesale market are willing to pay for an ounce right now; the ask is what sellers want for it. The gap between them is the spread — the wholesale market’s own cost of doing business.
When you sell gold to HJ Bullion, we start from the bid — the real, immediate price our own buyers will honor — and apply a small wholesale discount. That discount isn’t a markup on you; it covers the spread we pay to move the metal and our handling and assay costs, and it’s what lets us pay a fair, transparent price rather than a lowball. Right now that’s about 92.0% of the spot bid, or roughly $3,851.30 per troy ounce of pure gold.
